Chapter Two

We often read stories in the paper and online about new businesses or the success of latest trends, but what we very rarely read or hear is how the idea came to be. The inspiration, the reasoning, the motivation. Why, you may ask? I personally do not know. Perhaps it’s because they’re stories that lack any depth. Bland. A little Vanilla. This may be the case, but there’s little denying... vanilla is a popular flavour.

It’s June 2010 and I have just started my A-levels. I have also just put live Tom Martin London. I had a following which expanded little outside my school - but it didn’t matter. Tom Martin London was never started to be a job, it was a project. Something to do, something else to have fun working on.... because of course A-level exams and the unjustified amount of art coursework isn't enough, right? In truth, I’m not entirely sure why I started the business. I believe it was more to see whether I could do it, to challenge myself. Running a business isn’t the motivation, it’s the journey which is the fun part.

Three weeks ago, when we relaunched our new brand and the new Tom Martin London website, as an independent body outside of Notonthehighshreet, the future was uncertain. I knew we had a new product in the pipeline and I was excited about our future, yet NOTHS; our big first chapter, provided its Partners with a platform to contact new customers. How we would mimic this growth and proceed into Chapter Two on our own was the question. The future was going to be either bright or dark. Risky, perhaps, but a journey with no light is much more exciting than when the pathway is clear.

The past three weeks have been beyond what we, as a business, could possibly envisage and we owe our thanks solely to you: our customers and supporters. We have received over 650 ‘likes’, ‘loves’ and ‘wow’s’ on one single Facebook post - the highest number in the past 5 years, over 75 shares and a fantastic growing community talking about our new ‘Celebration Ready’ commemorative keepsake.

The support has been overwhelming and for that, I sincerely thank you. As we continue to grow, we hope you will remain by our side as our friends and the loyal supporters you have so far been.

’Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.’

                                - Sir Winston Churchill.

Until Chapter Three!
